Life in the Upper Valley
If you haven't experienced the change of seasons or the charm of small-town life in New England, you are in for a real treat. The Upper Connecticut Valley, in the areas around Hanover and Lebanon, NH, and Norwich and White River Junction, VT, offers small towns with clapboard houses, blue skies and clean air and water, all-season recreation from hiking and canoeing to mountain biking and skiing, and friendly people who treasure country life. Add to this a state of the art children's hospital and an Ivy League academic community with endless cultural and art opportunities. It's small-town life, and professional training, at its best.
The area abounds with professionals in medicine, academics, engineering, computer technology, small business, and other fields. Schools are excellent, as are day care centers, including the DHMC Child Care Center on the medical center campus.

Adult educational opportunities are abundant, with many colleges in the area offering classes that include crafts and gardening as well as programs for the associate degree to doctorate and law degrees and post-doctoral fellowships. Sports and recreation classes for children and adults, in all seasons, are available in each community. The "commute" to the medical center is likely to take only a few minutes, and there are no traffic jams. We live year-round the life that visitors seek when they retreat here for weekends, summer camp, or vacations.
We are rural but we are not remote. We are at the junction of the two major interstates in northern New England. Some of the finest skiing in the Northeast, like Killington in Vermont, is only an hour away, with the Dartmouth Skiway only 15 minutes away. Cultural activities abound. Dartmouth College hosts lecture series, professional musicians and dance and film series. Drama and musical performances are presented on campus and in surrounding towns. Boston and the coast of Maine are a two-hour drive away; French-speaking Montreal is only three hours drive north. A regional airport is ten minutes away, and New Hampshire's largest jetport in Manchester, one hour away, is serviced by United, USAir, Southwest and other airlines. But there is so much to do here, and the lifestyle is so appealing, you may never want to leave!
