Period Problems

  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
There are many ways to help your premenstrual symptoms, including regular exercise, limiting how much caffeine you drink, and taking over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen.

  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)
Some women have premenstrual symptoms that are more severe than PMS. PMDD's main symptoms are severe depression and tension.

  • Painful Periods
Cramps are a very common symptom of menstruation. In rare cases, they are caused by endometriosis, infectious diseases, or other conditions.

  • Absent Periods
Your period may be delayed during puberty, or stop at another time during your life. Causes include weight changes, pregnancy, and menopause.

  • Heavy, Prolonged or Irregular Periods
While periods are often heavy and erratic in the first few years after menstruation starts, there are many other causes as well.

  • Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods
Spotting between periods can be caused by anything from stress to ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy that occurs outside the womb). It is a good idea to have a checkup with your doctor to rule out more serious possibilities.
