| A major change at Speare Memorial Hospital has been the expansion and renovation of the Radiology Division, which moved into new space in the expanded hospital facility. This has allowed for a consolidation of the X-ray Department and a gain in square footage. We have expanded our clinical offerings. Mobile Nuclear Medicine imaging was added in 2004, so we now offer nuclear imaging services and procedures. We also have seen an increase in the number of arthrograms and myelograms performed. Equipment With the expansion and renovation, Speare Radiology acquired new equipment. A Philips Eleva digital R&F unit replaced our old GE fluoroscopy machine. A new CT scanner also was obtained. We now have the Philips Brilliance 6-slice scanner, which has greatly improved our scanning capabilities and capacity. There has been remarkable improvement in PE studies and orthopedic applications. The physician's console allows us access to multiplanar reconstructions and advanced viewing strategies, such as 3-D rendering. We also upgraded our DEXA bone density unit to the Hologic Discovery. We received the gift of an S&S motorized viewer from the Radiology Department at DHMC, which was placed in the new reading room in 2006. Teaching In the area of teaching, we have hosted several Dartmouth medical students who are considering radiology as a career. The students' time at Speare provides them the opportunity to experience radiology in a small community hospital setting. Based on Dr. Trought's prior experiences in major medical centers, academic radiology, and other small hospitals, he is able to share varying perspectives with students. Senior residents and fellows from DHMC continue to provide coverage at Speare, gaining experience in the community hospital situation and practicing independently. Staff We had some additions to the ranks of technologists at Speare. Amy Hartly, Matt Stoltzfus, and John Swartz have joined General Radiology and CT. Toni Finan is in Ultrasound.
