Body CT Imaging

Radiology's Body CT Division has expanded its technological capacity. Our new 16 and 64-row Lightspeed scanners let us perform intricate vascular and three-dimensional work, including advanced cardiac imaging. Our technologists and faculty now perform angiographic imaging, cardiac imaging, excretory urographic imaging, and endoluminal imaging on these high speed multidetector CT scanners. Patient care remains at the forefront of our mission.

Clinical services offered include:
  • Complete thoracic CT and abdominal/pelvic CT diagnostic and staging examinations
  • Percutaneous biopsy
  • Percutaneous abscess and fluid collection drainage
  • Percutaneous injections for pain treatment
  • High-resolution imaging for solid organ neoplasms
  • Oncologic imaging/follow-up

Equipment
The CT division owns five 3D workstations, which produce remarkably lifelike 3D images. The division also has four CT scanners, including two 16-slice and one 64-slice multidetector CT, the
Lightspeed VCT. CT has benefited from Radiology’s PACS system, which displays digital CT, Ultrasound and MR Images, and links them to the electronic patient records. The PACS allows referring clinicians to review CT studies from outside of our department and ensures an efficient workflow for our internal medical records.

Research
CT research continues to grow. Dr. William Black is leading the DHMC component of the
National Lung Cancer Screening Trial. The CT division also actively supports the numerous investigators at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center by providing imaging for patients in various treatment protocols.
