Some Information About Glands

Many of the conditions listed below mention glands that produce hormones. Here's a quick fact sheet about some major glands:

The pituitary gland: located at the base of the brain, controls the production of hormones in all endocrine glands
The adrenal glands: located on the top of your kidneys, produce adrenaline, cortisol, aldosterone, and other steroid hormones that enable the body to respond to stress
The thyroid gland: located in the center of the neck, creates hormones that control the body's heart rate, blood pressure, and metabolism
The four parathyroid glands: located at the corners of the thyroid gland, control the level of calcium in your blood
