Diagnostic Tests and Procedures:

  • Bravo Capsule pH Test
Places a small device in the esophagus, or swallowing tube, to measure what happens when a patient feels the symptoms of heartburn.

  • Colonoscopy
The doctor uses a thin, flexible tube to examine the large intestine for growths that may lead to colon cancer.

  • Electrogastrogram (EGG)
Measures the electrical signals that travel through the muscles of the stomach.

  • Endoscopic Ultrasound
Allows your doctor to place an ultrasound probe close to an area where you might have problems, and create images more detailed than those of a traditional ultrasound.

  • ERCP
Uses a thin, flexible tube with a tiny video camera on the end to find problems in the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas.

  • Esophageal Manometric Motility Study
A way to test the muscles of the esophagus (swallowing tube), as well as the band of muscles at the bottom of the esophagus.

  • Esophageal 24-Hour pH Study
Records what happens in the lower esophagus, or swallowing tube, of a patient with heartburn.

  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
Uses a thin, flexible tube to examine the lower portion of the large intestine (the colon) to check for growths that may lead to colon cancer.

  • Needle Liver Biopsy
The doctor removes a tiny sample of the liver to check for signs of liver damage or disease.

  • Upper GI Endoscopy
Uses a tiny video camera to look at the swallowing tube (the esophagus), the stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine.

  • Video Capsule Endoscopy
The patient swallows a device that creates images of the digestive system that a doctor can later view on a computer.
