Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Their activities include:
- patient care
- teaching
- quality improvement
- research
- leadership related to Hospital Medicine
The Section of Hospital Medicine is part of the Department of Medicine. We serve as attending physicians for patients admitted to Medicine at DHMC. We work closely with patient's Primary Care Physicians and with our subspecialty colleagues in the Department of Medicine. We also provide medical consultation to Orthopedics, Surgical, Psychiatric, and other inpatient services at DHMC.
Hospital Medicine is dedicated to providing excellent inpatient medical care, serving an integral role in the education and mentoring of Dartmouth medical students and Internal Medicine residents, as well as continually developing and supporting a model of highly collaborative care amongst care providers in a tertiary care setting.
Our approach to medical care is based on the mission statement of DHMC:
"To provide high quality health care and comfort to the ill, to prevent illness among the well, and to advance health care through education, research, and the improvement of clinical practice."
