Seeing a Specialist

Some health insurance policies require that your consult your family doctor (primary care provider, or PCP) before you visit a specialist. Your PCP must authorize the visit. This is called a referral.

If you need to see a specialist for a health condition not treated at the Community Health Center:

  1. Call the number on the back of your insurance card. Your insurance company will tell you if your PCP must authorize the visit to the specialist.

  2. If you need a referral, call the Community Health Center at (603) 650-4000.

  3. Our office will notify you if your PCP needs to see you before he or she can authorize the referral.

Please note: A referral from your PCP does not guarantee that your health insurance company will pay for your visit to the specialist.
