The fellowship program in Infectious Disease at DHMC is designed to prepare internists for careers in academic medicine and clinical or laboratory research in the field of infectious diseases.

Important components of our program are inpatient and outpatient consultative services, longitudinal care of persons infected with HIV, and teaching of medical students and housestaff. Fellows are full participants in the academic activities of the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics.

Two years of subspecialty training are required for board eligibility in Infectious Diseases, but trainees may wish to spend a total of three years in the program, one primary clinical and two devoted to clinical or laboratory research.

Trainees have the opportunity to manage adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases on both an inpatient and an outpatient basis.
