    • Browser plug-in programs
      These free programs enhance the performance of your browser software by allowing the viewing of specialized programs within your browser. These include multimedia, movies, sound, three dimensional images, etc. They must be downloaded from central sites or the individual producer, and stored in a "plug-in" folder usually installed by your browser. The plug-ins are usually platform specific, requiring different versions for Macintosh versus DOS versus UNIX.
