Position availability
One or two new fellows are selected annually.
Application deadline
- Applications are accepted during the fall and winter.
- The deadline for completed applications is January 15.
Program duration
The program is currently three years long, including:
- 24 months of clinical experience
- 12 months of research and elective experience
Eligibility
Candidates must be graduates of an LCME-accredited medical school, have completed an accredited Internal Medicine residency, and be board eligible in Internal Medicine per ABIM guidelines.
Interview process
After receipt of all required documentation, qualified candidates will be invited for interviews. This will include the opportunity to attend an orientation session and Gastroenterology Grand Rounds, conduct personal interviews with faculty members, and interact with current fellows.
Application requirements
Theis fellowship participates in the Gastroenterology Match Program and the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We do not accept paper applications. ERAS requires the following:
- The common application form
- USMLE scores (Part I is required for the application process and Part II (Medical Knowledge and Clinical Skills) is required well in advance of the start of the intern year.
- ECFMG report and certificate for international medical graduates (this includes U.S. applicants attending medical schools outside of the U.S.)
- An official transcript from the applicant's medical school
- Dean's letter
- The Department of Medicine letter (when available)
- Two letters of recommendation
- A personal statement
Requirements for foreign applicants
You must have a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to be eligible for application to a GME-accredited clinical training program.
Please note that it is a requirement of the New Hampshire Board of Medicine to have successfully passed USMLE Steps 1 and 2, or NBME Parts 1 and 2, or have obtained ECFMG Certification in order to apply for a training licenese. It is imperative that you meet these requirements in order to begin your training on time, or jepordize acceptance of your application.
In order to participate in an accredited GME clinical training program at DHMC, foreign national physicians must seek ECFMG sponsorship as a J-1 exchange visitor. The objectives of the Exchange Visitor Program are to enhance international exchange and to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other nations through the interchange of persons, knowledge, and skills.
Candidates who have graduated, or are expected to graduate, in good standing from a U.S. Medical or Osteopathic School, presently on an F-1 Visa, will be considered for H-1B status. The program may also consider candidates who are presently holding H-1B visas from other training programs. Each training program will apply certain program specific criteria for screening of H-1B applicants. The program then will present these candidates to the GME Office.
All fees related to obtaining appropriate visa status including USMLE or other examinations, credentialing, licensure and or legal fees are the full responsibility of the applicant.
