The Dartmouth area has an appeal that many find irresistible. The general region is called the “Upper Valley” (of the upper Connecticut River) and includes Hanover, home of Dartmouth College; adjacent Lebanon (the site of DHMC); Norwich, Vermont, (our "neighbor" right across the river); and many other thriving communities. Hanover has a population of about 9000 and the surrounding area’s population is about 30,000.

Dartmouth is about halfway between two truly great cities - Boston and Montreal - and many residents make the 2-hour drive to Boston regularly. The 250-mile drive to New York City is practical as well, because of our location at the intersection of the 2 major highways in the region – I91 and I89. The Manchester NH airport is about 1 hour and 15 min away, with easy connections to most cities. There is a smaller, local airport in Lebanon NH, that has regular service to NYC and several other destinations.

The combination of Ivy League college life and outdoor activities(including the Appalachian Trail, White Mountains, and Connecticut River) provides residents of the area with numerous social, artistic, and other recreational outlets. Look in to some of these amenities below: In addition, the area is known for great schools, clean air, a safe environment, and scenic beauty - on both sides of the "border".  (Dartmouth is in New Hampshire, and abuts Vermont, so many Dartmouth doctors and residents choose to live in Vermont).  The Dartmouth area is a great place to live, and most people who spend time here look for ways to stay here longer.
