Bicycle Racer Robert Schrank on Exercise and Diabetes Management

Thursday November 12,2009   6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Organization: Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, Diabetes Program

This free lecture by a notable guest speaker in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month (November) is hosted by DHMC's Diabetes Program.

Our guest speaker is Robert Schrank, bicycle racer and manager for the American Diabetes Association's "Team Type 1."

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 24, Schrank, a former competitive runner, played an integral role in Team Type 1, which won the Race Across America in 2007. He raced to defend his title in 2008. In June 2009, Robert's team won the 8-man race and set a new speed record, traveling more than 3,000 miles in less than five days and ten hours. His success is opening more doors, allowing him to play a key role behind the scenes.

"Diabetes has given me the opportunity to meet new people and take my career and life in directions that never would have been possible otherwise," he says. "Diabetes helps to define my life and how I experience it. Sometimes that is a challenge, but it definitely keeps things interesting."

Come hear Robert talk about his experience using exercise to help manage diabetes.

This talk is free and open to the public. There is no need to register for this event. For more information, call (603) 650-8630.
