Clinical Experiences

CLINICAL ROTATION SCHEDULE

Rotations are designed to integrate inpatient and outpatient care, drug use evaluation, drug information, distributive and clinical practice, and student teaching. Required core rotations are one calendar month in length. It is recommended that three core rotations will be completed prior to taking elective rotations. The residents participate in several longitudinal experiences during the year, which contribute to the core experiences of the program.

CORE LONGITUDINAL EXPERIENCES

  • Drug Information
  • Ambulatory Clinic (one-half day per week)
  • Research Project
  • Clinical Staff Pharmacist coverage
  • Medication Use Safety

ELECTIVE EXPERIENCES

  • Nephrology
  • Solid Organ Transplant
  • Cardiovascular Critical Care
  • Hematology/ Oncology Outpatient Clinic
  • Intensive Care Nursery
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Pharmacy Informatics
  • Investigational Drug Service
  • Clinical Pharmacology
  • Pain service/palliative care
  • Education/ Staff Development
  • Additional Training in a required core rotation
  • Any practice area where it can be determined productive pharmaceutical care and learning can take place.

ROTATION GUIDELINES

  • Residents should plan to meet with rotation preceptors for a minimum of one-hour daily (a minimum of 5 hours/week).
