Nursing Annual Reports
The Office of Professional Nursing supports a wide range of educational opportunities for nurses at DHMC. Our goal is to give our nurses the chance to build their careers, develop new skills, and refine existing skills. Our programs include:
- An innovative Nurse Residency Program that creates opportunities for new nurse graduates—or nurses with less than one year’s experience—to transition into an acute-care nursing environment
- Nursing Simulation Education programs that offer high-fidelity simulation education for new nurse graduates and experienced nurse orientation
- A year-long Operating Room Novice Nurse Program for recent nurse graduates that combines classroom learning with clinical experiences in the OR and medical/surgical units of the hospital
- An Operating Room Nurse Internship Program designed for experienced nurses interested in working in the Operating Room setting
- A ten-month, two-part Emergency Department Nurse Transition training program which prepares experienced acute care nurses to practice in the ED. Apply for the program by searching for "transition program" within our online application.
- Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) courses and Nursing Grand Rounds
- The Competency for Geriatric Nursing in Rural New England Project which enhances the care of older adults with a comprehensive education program aimed at training and educating the nursing work force about geriatric care
- Periodic seminars that help practicing LNAs obtain their state-required 12 continuing education units (CEUs) per year. These programs are often videotaped and placed in the library, where they can be viewed independently for CEU credit. View these videotaped seminars.
- A specially-designed two-day workshop that helps experienced nurses develop and refine their skills as a preceptor
Financial assistance and scholarships
- DHMC provides full and half-time employees with financial assistance to obtain or advance a college degree. Email Natalie.Mantz@hitchcock.org for more information.
- Multiple scholarship opportunities exist for DHMC Nursing staff. These include Auxillary Nursing Scholarships, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance Scholarship, the Levine Nursing Continuing Education Awards, and the Elza Frank Hintze Scholarship Award. Call (603) 650-8891 for more details.
MHMH School of Alumni Nursing Association
- Graduates of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (MHMH SON) have cared for people literally all over the globe, and have contributed to the profession of nursing in practice, education, and research in many geographical areas. Though the school was closed in 1980, the association strives to support nursing education through the Dora Jane Johnson Scholarship Grant.
