The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice
The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) —formerly the Center for Evaluative Clinical Sciences (CECS)—has gained a national and international reputation since its establishment in 1989.
Dr. Paul Batalden was recruited by the CECS to develop knowledge and leadership for the improvement of healthcare systems that result in cost-effective, patient-centered quality care on both the national and international levels.
In 1994, Dr. Batalden established the Health Care Improvement Leadership Development (HCILD), now known as the Center for Leadership and Improvement (CLI).
Since July 2003, DHMC has partnered with TDI and developed the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency to offer residents and fellows a means, in Dr. Batalden's words, "to gain further knowledge and skills in the measurement of outcomes and the leadership of change and improvement in health care systems."
