About the Residency

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency is the first of its kind in the nation. It is offered jointly by the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI, formerly Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences) and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Residents will earn a master's in public health (MPH) degree and have the opportunity to translate this knowledge into improving a process of care for a subpopulation of patients.

  • Leadership—including design and redesign—of small systems in health care
  • Measurement of illness burden in individuals and populations
  • Measurement of the outcomes of health service interventions
  • Leadership of change for improvement of quality, value and safety of health care of individuals and of populations
  • Reflection on personal professional practice and integration into ongoing personal and professional development

Length of LPMR

The program is the usual length of the resident's "home" specialty program plus two years. Residents will receive individual mentoring by designated department coaches, who will also help in the identification, formulation, and completion of a practicum project.
