Other Resources

At some point in life, most people face difficult health decisions affecting themselves or their families. The decisions are hard because:

  • There is more than one choice.
  • Each choice has advantages and disadvantages.
  • There is no "correct" choice.
  • What you choose depends on what is important to you.

How we help

Our counselors can help you make an informed decision about any healthcare treatment choice. We work with DHMC patients and people in the community, and help people of any age. Our support services include:

  • One-on-one counseling sessions
  • A Decision Aid Library of helpful videotapes, audiotapes, booklets, CD-ROMs, and websites
  • A Healthcare Decision Guide worksheet to help you work through a decision with guidance or on your own

Our mission

  • To provide an excellent support service that fosters shared decision making between patients and healthcare providers
  • To characterize the ways in which decision support and aids are most helpful for patients, providers, the healthcare institution, insurers, and the community
  • To document the life of the Center as the prototype of a dedicated decision support service for other healthcare entities worldwide
