Gastroenterology Studies

DHMC's Gastroenterology section is currently conducting the following clinical trials and is seeking patient participation. If you are interested in taking part, please find more details and contact information for each trial by following the links.

  • Certifi Study
This is a Phase 2b, Multicienter, Randomized, Double blind, Placebo-controlled, Parallel-group Study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Ustekinumab Therapy in Subjects with Moderately to Severely Active Crohn's Disease Previously Treated with TNF Antagonist Therapy

  • Hepatitis C Testing
The purpose of the study is to evaluate an investigational test for detection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in body fluids. Point of care (on the spot) (POC) tests for HCV may be very helpful for the identification of HCV infected people, because they are easy to use and can give results to the doctors quickly while the patient is still in the office. OraSure Technologies, Inc. has developed a POC test for HCV using the OraQuick® rapid test platform.

  • Environmental Risk Factors in IBD

The purpose of this study is to determine if certain environmental factors-especially diet-contribute to the development of inflammatory bowel disease and to compare those factors in patients from the US and in patients from India.

  • Functional Dyspepsia
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether antidepressant medications are effective at treating the symptoms of functional dyspepsia.

  • GIDEON
The purpose of the study is to obtain further data concerning the safety and effectiveness of Nexavar® in the treatment of advanced stage liver cancer.

  • Hepatitis C Treatment for Insulin Resistance
The main purpose of this study is to see how well and how safely certain combinations of drugs will work to treat chronic Hepatitis C (CHC) and insulin resistance.

  • Lubiprostone Study
The purpose of this study is to determine why a percentage of patients treated with Lubiprostone, a drug used to treat chronic constipation, develop mild nausea.

  • Ocera Hepatic Encephalopathy Study
This study is designed to obtain information on the safety and the effectiveness of an experimental drug called AST-120 in treating mild hepatic encephalopathy (MHE). AST-120 may improve overall cognitive function in patients with MHE.

  • Prometheus Blood Draw
The purpose of the study is to learn about developing a blood and urine test panel that could help diagnose IBS and functional gastrointestinal diseases. To do this, the researchers collect blood and urine samples from subjects with IBS as well as from healthy individuals. Your samples will be checked to see if they contain specific components that the sponsor of this study, Prometheus has found in patients who have IBS, as well as other biological markers that may be developed during the course of the research.
