Approximately fifty percent of pediatric ophthalmology patients at DHMC are seen for strabismus (crossed eyes).Treatment can include patching for amblyopia (lazy eye), glasses for nearsightedness or farsightedness, or eye muscle surgery to straighten the eyes.  The other fity percent are seen for developmental abnormalities, systemic disease or ocular abnormalities including tear duct problems.  Pediatric Ophthalmology works closely with the Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), so that retinopathy of prematurity can be identified and treated.
