Orthopaedics

More Appointment Information

Patients can either self-refer or be referred by their primary care provider to Orthopaedics. Self-refer means that patients can contact the department directly to make an appointment. If a patient self-refers to Orthopaedics, they can see a physician on their first visit. Appointments can also be made by your Primary Care Physician (PCP) who refers you to our program.

The appointment secretary confirms your symptoms, prior treatments, insurance information, and demographics. You are then offered the first available appointment with the requested doctor (MD or DO), physician's assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP). The appointment is then scheduled with the Department of Orthopaedics.

What to Expect on Your Visit

At various appointments, you will be asked to take a health questionnaire so that we can track your progress and keep your health records up to date. You will complete this set of questions using an electronic tablet which our reception staff will show you how to use.

If you like, you can complete this questionnaire online before your appointment. To do this, you will need to register for Patient Online, a free online resource we offer our patients.

Patient Online allows you to email questions to your healthcare providers, request or reschedule appointments, and much more. You will need to register at least two weeks before your appointment to allow enough time to get your password set up. If you do not have access to a computer with internet access, feel free to use one of the many computer terminals in the Health Education Center on Level 4 at DHMC. Staff members are available to assist you.
