Hyperbaric Medicine

Printable Version

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses a special high-pressure chamber to raise the amount of oxygen that enters your body with each breath. This extra supply of oxygen helps wounds heal and your white blood cells fight infection.

Doctors use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat:

  • Problem wounds, non-healing ulcers, and compromised skin grafts
  • Tissues damaged by radiation therapy
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Decompression sickness (the bends)
  • Chronic infections
  • Burns

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy does not hurt. Read more about this therapy in Treatment Details.
