The Section of Dermatology provides consultation and therapy for patients with diseases of the skin, hair, nails, and adjacent mucous membranes (genitalia and mouth).

  • Dermatologic surgery, including:
  • Pediatric dermatology
  • Melanoma and pigmented lesions
  • Cutaneous lymphoma, including mycosis fungoids
  • Contact dermatitis and occupational dermatology
  • Clinical trials program for new dermatologic therapies
  • Dermatopathology consultations (provided on submission of tissue or fixed sections)
  • Psoriasis - consultation and phototherapy
  • Connective tissue diseases
  • Concerns of the aging face, including large blood vessels, pigmented areas and wrinkles

Diagnostic tests

  • Skin biopsies for histopathologic evaluation, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence testing, microbiologic culture, flow cytometry and gene rearrangement studies
  • Patch testing for contact allergy
  • Photo and photopatch testing for light hypersensitivity
  • KOH exam for superficial fungal infections
  • Microscopic examination for ectoparasites
  • Dermatoscopy for pigmented lesions
