Clinical Pharmacology

The section of Clinical Pharmacology provides consultations on inpatient and ambulatory patients with any drug-related problem including adverse effects, interactions, allergy, use in elderly patients, use in patients with liver or kidney disease, or optimal use of therapeutic monitoring.  The Section also sees a number of ambulatory patients with possible exposures to chemical toxins.  The Section is responsible for admitting patients with serious drug overdoses or poisonings and is closely involved in a variety of experimental protocols for evaluating new types of medications, especially antineoplastic agents.

  • Assessment of patients with drug-related or toxin-related symptoms
  • Emergency transfers of patients with life-threatening acute toxicological emergencies

Diagnostic Capabilities

  • Emergency tests for plasma levels of drugs and toxins.
